Fremont tells the story of Donya, a former Afghan translator for the U.S. military, who now works at a fortune cookie factory in Fremont, California. Living a life of quiet routine, Donya’s world is turned upside down when she decides to inject her own messages into the cookies. This small act of rebellion leads to unexpected connections and new opportunities. Anaita Wali Zada shines as Donya, capturing her struggle to find purpose and belonging in a foreign land. Director Babak Jalali infuses the film with a gentle humour and warmth, making Fremont a touching exploration of identity, hope, and the search for meaning in the most unexpected places.
