This endearing documentary offers “a gentle insight into old age in rural France” (Margaret Pomeranz, At the Movies), and an insight into the fast-disappearing old ways of life there. We meet Madame Clos, an extraordinary woman approaching her hundredth year of life in an old-fashioned French village. Through a series of interviews and intimate vignettes, we follow Madame as she goes about her daily life – housekeeping, baking, shopping, and mixing with the other village residents. Australian filmmaker Jane Oehr sets the narrative in the context of a train journey, weaving together her many interviews with Madame Clos over the past four years. Over endless cups of tea, Madame talks about her life and her past, offers her thoughts on life and aging, and reveals some long-held secrets.
