None of the films I’ve fallen in love with have hit me quite like Christopher Zalla’s familiar yet remarkable Radical.

11 JANUARY: 3 pm & 7 pm
126 Mins | Mexico | Drama |

VENUE: MALENY COMMUNITY CENTRE
23 MAPLE STREET MALENY

Based on a true story, this inspirational film follows the determined efforts of Sergio, a teacher in a tough, crime-ridden Mexican border town, to engage his disaffected sixth graders through a radical new approach to teaching. Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez delivers a powerful performance as Sergio. However, the film’s success owes even more to the superb performances of the young actors playing his students as they reclaim the curiosity and enthusiasm that had been suppressed by a stale, conformist educational approach and a bleak community environment. Radical premiered at the Sundance Festival, winning the festival’s Audience Award, and has since gained favourable reviews from many critics.
