Zahia is a young Algerian girl living in Paris. She aspires to be an orchestra conductor. But she is Algerian, and a woman, so numerous obstacles are placed in her way. The only way is to create an orchestra of her own, along with her twin sister, a cellist. She names her orchestra Divertimento. Her passion is to bring orchestral music to those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it. Does this sound like a nice fairy tale with great music? Well, the music is great, but it is no fairy tale. Zahia eventually becomes an internationally renowned conductor, conducting the orchestra for the closing ceremony for the 2024 Olympic Games. ‘A warm, engaging, joyful, piece of cinema, yet one with some important things to say.
