One rainy night, a pair of men furtively carry off a baby abandoned by a young single mother who left it in a ‘baby box’ outside a church. Their plans to sell the baby on the adoption black-market are interrupted when the mother unexpectedly returns the next day. They agree to join forces and find her baby a suitable set of new parents. However, a pair of police detectives begin tailing them, adding a further twist. Master Japanese filmmaker Kore-eda Hirokasu follows his highly acclaimed, award-winning Shoplifters (2019) with this engaging, compassionate and unforgettable story about love, sacrifice and human relationships. Set in South Korea, it stars Song Kang-ho who won the Cannes Best Actor award in 2019 for his role in Parasite, itself awarded the Palm d’Or.
