VENUE: MALENY COMMUNITY CENTRE
23 MAPLE STREET MALENY

Every year from near and far, even Australia, people gather in the Scottish village of Carrbridge come rain, rain or rain to compete in a unique contest celebrating that immortal wonder of Scotland bringing warmth and comfort every morning to millions of hungry tummies all over the world: porridge. To make the best bowl of porridge in the world, an entrant must have a saucepan, heat, water, salt, oats, flair, passion, practice, obsession and a spurtle. See the marquee raised. Watch the crowds arrive in buses. Hold your breath.  Directed by Australian Constantine Costi, this beguiling documentary about a small community that finds itself with a world event on its hands was a hit at the 2025 Sydney Film Festival. ‘A palate-pleasing celebration of the noble oat.’ (The Guardian)
