On the night of May the 19th, 2010, five paintings were stolen from the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. The loot included paintings valued at more than 100 million euros, which have never been recovered. The French Job creates a frenetic and fictional tale based on this set up. A trio of thieves including a perpetually anxious watch expert and fast-talking thief become caught up in what to do with the paintings once they have them. The film is a clever and captivating comedy punctuated by a playful score, and with cinematography both thoughtful and artistic.
