Peter Greste, an Australian journalist working for Al Jazeera was imprisoned for 14 months (2013-2015) in an Egyptian prison for his reporting on the Arab Spring uprising. His case became international news as an attack on journalistic freedom. Richard Roxburgh gives a fine portrayal as Greste in this biographical thriller. Much of the action takes place in a grim Egyptian prison and courtroom, with flashbacks providing context for both the political situation, and Greste’s life. It’s a important story, powerfully told, about not just the importance of truth in journalism, but also the moral dilemmas faced by journalists.
